The Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services recently issued an updated report on serious concerns regarding the much anticipated Avian caused influenza pandemic, and outlined what must be accomplished to prepare for the potentially catastrophic impact of the illness.  While Secretary Leavitt was careful not mention projected deaths expected from the influenza pandemic, widely disseminated expert assessments forecast upwards of 100 million human deaths.  As Secretary Leavitt states in his report, "We are in a race, a race against time and complacency."  The Secretary's  report is available in its entirety, in .pdf format, by clicking on the report image above.

The United States government intends on stockpiling the only "two FDA-approved antivirals that have shown effectiveness against the H5N1 virus, Tamiflu, and Relenza."  Secretary Leavitt goes on to explain that the "immediate goal is to stockpile enough antivirals to treat 20 million people.  The longer-term goal is to be able to treat 75 million people, or 25 percent of the U.S. population."  As if it is unfathomable for a civilized, modern, society to prepare to assist only one quarter of one's population, the United Kingdom, too, has announced its plan to stockpile only enough antiviral medication for one quarter of her population.  Other nations of the world will see even less protection for their respective populations.

This site endeavors to identify sources of Tamiflu and Relenza to allow individuals to begin their own preparations for the coming pandemic.  It is our hope that the pandemic will be more benign than forecasted, not only here in Europe, but in the Americas and the remainder of the world.  However, it is more prudent to prepare for the worse, while hoping for the best.  To the extent that other types of reliable emergency preparedness sources are found, they too will be listed.  Please share the information with your neighbors, friends and family; good luck to each of us.
